Time travel has been a dream of mankind for centuries, and countless great books and films have been made on the subject. In stories in which the characters travel forward in time, the imagined future is usually populated with enhanced versions of what exists in the present. Time travel has so far not been achieved, at least as far as we know, but anyone with an eye open to innovations in the present can often feel as if they have stepped into the future. In our last article, we collected some amazing examples of how artificial intelligence has opened up new horizons in almost every field, from agriculture to fashion design and medicine. We continue this list with some truly sci-fi-like AI solutions for industry.
Artificial Intelligence and Hollywood
When it comes to artificial intelligence, there are opinions that the arts and creative work will forever remain the privilege of man, because no machine learning system can compete with human creativity. Hollywood seems to think a little differently. The algorithm from a Belgian company called ScriptBook, which has yet to write an Oscar-winning script, promises to predict the success of a film and the expected ticket sales based on the script. It can also be used to help filmmakers decide which of a series of episodes written in several versions should actually be shot in the light of the expected success. One Hollywood film studio has been using the programme for years and, no matter how unbelievable it may seem, it has tripled the success rate of the scripts selected.
Complain to a chatbot
Managing burnout and other workplace issues is a difficult task for any large company. India’s leading e-commerce company, Nearbuy, has realised that managers don’t have enough time to talk to employees, so many problems that could otherwise be solved simply don’t get to them and can’t be dealt with. In response, inFeedo has developed a chatbot that allows employees to chat and provides managers with information about the problems and issues that need to be resolved. This has helped to identify and address motivation and other workplace issues for around 70 employees a year, making the company much more efficient.
Time is money
Artificial intelligence can also help you perform everyday tasks more efficiently, whether it’s administrative tasks or managing documentation. The collaboration between Neuron Solutions and Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems Budapest engineering has resulted in machine learning algorithms that are ideal for the selection of technical drawings. The AI developed for this purpose can be used in everyday work with great efficiency, as it can recognise the drawings in question and the technical drawing symbols it is looking for with an accuracy of more than 95%. This has saved more than 500 man-hours per year for engineers, who now have that much more time to design and create.
AI sees everything
A joint project between web application developer Coding Sans and Neuron Solutions has resulted in a business innovation that uses computer vision to analyse visitor behaviour – their movements, their “attention direction” – at fairs or other public events, such as museums or shops. The data collected can be used to better exploit more visible areas for marketing, which means more revenue for event and exhibition organisers as a result of more efficient marketing and better services.
