The allocation of the frequency licenses required for 5th generation mobile services in Hungary to telecommunication service providers is at the finish line. After the allocation of the frequencies, the roll-out of commercial 5G networks and the new infocommunication services will begin soon. Both the operation of the network and the services based on it bring a new dimension of complexity in which artificial intelligence (AI) can lend a helping hand. In this context, we recall the presentation by Gyula Kovács, Managing Director of Neuron Solutions Ltd, held at the Széchenyi István University (SZE) on the occasion of World Telecommunication Day 2019.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) uses statistical methods to find patterns in huge amounts of data to make decisions based on it.
5G is a fusion “data power plant” supporting gigabit bandwidth, millisecond response time, and over one million terminal densities per square kilometer.
Main applications of 5G + AI:
Network design and optimization: The design and operation of 5G networks is a particular challenge due to its complexity, hence it cannot be solved with traditional programming solutions. Therefore the utilization of AI techniques in 5G networking is a necessity, and vice versa, the promise of strong AI capabilities can only be fulfilled with 5G.
Autonomous transport systems: Without the reliable and low delay solutions provided by 5G, the vision of self-driving cars populating our smart cities can only be a pipe dream. These long desired innovations in our lives mutually depend on each other, and on 5G and AI optimization solutions as their core infrastructure.
Predictive healthcare and “tele-health”: 5G’s data transfer capabilities and reliability can deliver important health data in a timely and precise manner, combined with AI’s prediction capabilities this can revolutionize remotely-managed health care, helping to save lives eg. in the case of an off-site emergency center.
Overall, AI is the new electricity and 5G is the new wire. Wirelessly … 🙂
